About this Event
Welcome to the RBC Manchester event, where we'll be diving into October's theme, Burnout: Exploring why burnout is happening more, how to prevent, or recover from it, through this month's read, Dr Claire Plumbly's .
More about Burnout:
Our nervous systems weren't designed for modern life's relentless assault—they handle acute stress but crumble under constant demands, trapping us in survival mode where rational thinking shuts down.
Dr. Claire Plumbly reveals why you can't "think" your way out of burnout and offers a science-based roadmap using polyvagal theory to soothe your hijacked nervous system back to full capacity—guiding your body out of perpetual fight-or-flight so you can actually think, create, and connect again.
Inspired by our monthly non-fiction reads, our mix of part cocktail party, part creative classroom is a recipe that builds your reading habit while connecting with like minded people.
Delicious drinks are included, as well as engaging storytelling and space for conversations and sharing your own journeys across countries and continents.

Your host for the evening
Omar Latif
Omar is the founder of an AI startup and also pursuing a PhD in Behavioural AI. One big reason Omar joined RBC is to get away from academic literature, gain knowledge in areas outside of his interests and to have engaging conversations with the awesome community.
There is a clear alliance with the philosophy and taste of RBC as Omar has already read 70% of the books from the Rebel Book Club library!
Ryan Fellows
Co-host Ryan is an Honorary Salfordian having lived here for 14 years, but proudly born and raised in Preston
Having discovered RBC during ‘lockdown’ the monthly variety was a welcome distraction and the old zoom meets’ helped keep his sanity! Post Covid he’s looking to help build the Manchester crew
A keen amateur historian and lover of most sports; when not delving into a new book he’ll be watching the weekend's football or out running (in the famous Manchester rain!).
