About this Event
Real Writers Circle: Sport in Writing
What do bestsellers Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid, Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch, and Moneyball by Michael Lewis all have in common? If you're a fan, you'll know it's sport. As the summer begins, we'll turn our sites to Sport in Writing: how to write about it, and, how to tap into sport's core elements of competition, challenge, and triumph, to add drama, pace and unpredictability to our stories. Karen Dobres, former Lewes FC director, will be joining us to talk about her book Pitch Invasion, which details her experience at the club.
Agenda:
Connect, Learn, Share
1. Connecting: We believe that writers who know each other learn more. In this part of the evening, we actively facilitate a conversation between attendees. (This bit can be loud – in a good way.)
2. Hot Seat: With a speaker or a panel, we explore a topic/theme and promote sharing of expertise and knowledge among the group.
3. Reading: Up to two members share their work aloud. Listening to each other’s writing and offering feedback (if requested) informs our craft.
Meeting monthly, Real Writers Circle is a dedicated collective of writers who give and receive support, insights and advice as we improve our writing craft – for publication or otherwise. Circle members are un/published authors across any genre or form. The group is open to anyone who is intensional about their writing and wants to learn how to hone their craft.
