About this Event
This annual program brings the community together to collectively read and reflect on Frederick Douglass’s historic 1852 speech, “What to the Slave Is the Fourth of July?”Participants take turns reading aloud, creating a shared experience that underscores the continued relevance of Douglass’s words.
This nationwide tradition invites reflection, dialogue, and renewed commitment to the ideals of freedom and justice. Co-presented with Mass Humanities and Community Change.
