About this Event

Join author and illustrators, Elizabeth McConaughy-Oliver and Sendy Santamaria, for a reading and signing of their debut picture books! Enjoy a reading of Baby Express Yoself by Elizabeth McConaughy-Oliver and Yenebi’s Drive to School by Sendy Santamaria. Attendees will get the opportunity to pitch drawing prompts to these artists during our very first illustrator Draw Off!

Books will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public. See you there!

Elizabeth McConaughy-Oliver creates an emphasis on behavior and memory using color, shape, and playful characters. Her work focuses on personal experiences to communicate a more open understanding of what it means to be a POC today's society.

She finished her BFA in the Bay Area at California College of the Arts in 2019 and is currently working for the nonprofit 826 Valencia as an illustrator, mentor, and tutor. She also works part time for the creative agency Made In Color as a Creative Graphic Designer. Her work has been displayed at The Society of Illustrators 2019 Student Exhibit in New York City. She has also completed work for The Battery SF, Tenderloin Merchants Association, Meta Open Arts Program, Paint the Void and has had art shows at 111 Minna, and 560 Geary in San Francisco.

Sendy Santamaria is an illustrator, designer & children’s book author from San Diego currently based in San Pablo, California. She received her BFA in Illustration with distinction from California College of the Arts. She enjoys storytelling with multiple mediums.

She grew up along both sides of the border between San Diego and Tijuana and spent a lot of time daydreaming on the San Diego Blue Line trolley. Her work celebrates everyday narratives and Mexican American culture. She is inspired by migration, perseverance, pigeons and love.
