Come enjoy a lazy Sunday surrounded by native plants, chill music on vinyl, and good vibes. Bring a book, relax in the sun, meet new friends
About this Event

My idea of a perfect Sunday is reading a good book in the sunshine while listening to some chill tunes. It’s the perfect way to indulge in a bit of relaxing escapism before another busy week. If you agree, come check out Read, Listen, Chill at New Village, an outdoor community gathering space in Oakland's Clinton neighborhood.

Bring your own snacks, drinks, chairs and/or blankets; set up your own little oasis; and get lost in a good book for a few hours. I’ll be playing a mix of jazz and downtempo vinyl records in the background. Loud conversations and computers are discouraged, but we’re not trying to make a bunch of rules. If you want to draw in a sketchbook or write a poem instead of reading, go for it!

I hope you’ll join me for this experiment. If it goes well, maybe we’ll do it again.

About the venue...

Nestled in the heart of East Oakland's Clinton neighborhood, New Village Oakland is more than just a space—it's a vibrant hub where community connections flourish. Founded by Tae Ha, a first-generation immigrant with a passion for both child psychology and landscape design, our center is the culmination of a vision to create a welcoming and empowering space for everyone.

Inspired by the power of community resilience, Tae Ha envisioned a place where neighbors could gather, learn, and grow together. Building on the foundation laid by the neighboring Xochi the Dog Cafe, New Village Oakland expands this vision, creating a dedicated space for community enrichment.
