In the 1970s, 80s and 90s, basketball became more than a game, it became art. This exhibit honors the legends who turned the court into a canvas and inspired a global movement that still soars today.
Two-time NBA All-Star and Champion Norman Nixon, presents in collaboration with the Legends of Basketball, a photography exhibition at the Rhimes Performing Arts Center, home of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. Step into REACH FOR THE STARS: The Art of Basketball's Golden Era, an immersive visual tribute celebrating the decades when the game transcended sport and became a global art form. Through the dynamic lens of photographer Malek Abdul Mansour, experience never-before-seen images from his NBA All-Star archives, capturing the unmatched energy, charisma, and grace of the era that redefined air turning basketball into a global phenomenon to inspire the generations that followed.
The exhibition invites new and longtime audiences alike into the space, transforming the Center into a living archive of basketball history and cultural expression. Paired with the exhibition is an intimate talkback offering the public a rare, inside look at the stories, relationships, and moments behind the images. This exhibit creates a dynamic bridge
between art, sport, and community—welcoming players, executives, collectors, and fans into a shared experience of reflection and dialogue.
Limited edition signed prints will be available for purchase. A portion of proceeds from the exhibit will be benefit the scholarship and outreach programs of the Debbie Allen Dance Academy.
