About this Event
RE-CLAIM: THE RUNWAY (REST & RECUPERATION). A groundbreaking and unique art experience.
Launching 25th February 2026 at the long-standing Salmon Youth Centre in Bermondsey, Re-claim – The Runway (Rest & Recuperation) returns for its fifth iteration as an ambitious, immersive art experience confronting knife crime in London and across the UK.
Rooted in a community that has driven positive change since 1906, this new chapter of Re-claim comes full circle. The project was first presented at the Salmon Youth Centre in 2019, and seven years on, it returns renewed, deeper, more expansive, and shaped by the voices and experi-ences of young people living with the realities of knife crime today.
Re-claim is conceived, guided, and conducted by highly acclaimed contemporary visual artist, mentor, activist, and artist-in-residence Eugene Ankomah (EA). He describes the project as “a collaboration between theyoung people and me” and its process as “the creation of a non-judgmental, therapeutic space—one that allows fear, anxiety, and lived experience to be released, examined, and transformed through art”
The title Re-claim speaks to multiple acts of reclamation: reclaiming young people’s agency; reclaiming space from fear; and reclaiming discarded and recycled materials to create new meaning - to give life. Throughout the installation, throwaway objects are reimagined as symbols of life, resistance and hope.
The subtitle The Runway (Rest & Recuperation) holds a deliberate dual meaning. It references both a literal runway—evoking the ritual and visibility of fashion catwalks—and the idea of “running away” from danger on the streets. Here, the runway becomes a place not of escape, but of pause: a site for reflection, healing, and collective reckoning. At its launch, the project will unfold as a multimedia experience. Young people involved in the build-up will present a performance-like intervenion—an embodied expression of fear, vulnerability, and the redemptive power of creativity.
