About this Event
RCSI Paediatric Society 12th Annual Teddy Bear Hospital
Come join us at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland for a fun-filled day at the 12th Annual Teddy Bear Hospital event! Bring along your favorite teddy bear and our team of medical students will ensure your teddy bear receives top-notch care while teaching children about healthcare in a playful environment. We will also be raising funds for our fabulous chosen charity, Oscar's Kids Ireland, and you can donate by entering our raffle here.
Teddy Bear Hospital is a free event that aims to alleviate childhood fears about healthcare environments and increase health literacy in school-aged children. This event is aimed at children aged 4-10 though children outside those ages are encouraged to come if parents feel it would be of benefit or if a family wishes to attend with older siblings. Older children for whom this event would be developmentally appropriate are welcome to the Sunday session where we will have a higher ratio of volunteers to children.
The event is volunteer-led and run by medical, physician associate, physiotherapy, Ph*rm*cy, dentistry, and advanced technology technician students from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Our students are all interested in working with children and providing a fun interactive experience for all attending. The event will consist of several stations for your Teddy to visit. We encourage all children to attend with their teddy bears so that the teddies can get their annual check-ups, fix any rips or tears, and learn how to keep healthy. There will be 13 different stations that teach children and their teddies about different aspects of healthcare such as surgery, food and nutrition, first aid and so much more! There will also be a sensory room available to access and the venue is fully accessible.

As at all of our Teddy Bear Hospital events, we always have a charity we will raise funds for on the day. This year is no different and we will be raising funds for our chosen charity Oscar's Kids. Oscar's Kids is a National Childhood Cancer Charity founded by Yavanna and Lar Keogh in honour of their incredible son Oscar who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer in January 2018, passing just 19 months later in July 2019. The charity's mission is guided by the immense joy with which he lived life, his endless bravery and the magic he injected into every day, even the hardest ones. It is also inspired by the kindness and support bestowed upon them by so many charities and individuals during that time. For more informatino visit https://oscarskids.ie/.
This year, you can donate by entering our iDonate raffle at https://www.idonate.ie/raffle/RCSIRaffleinAidofOscarsKids. All proceeds from the event will aid our chosen charity, Oscar's Kids. No donation is required to attend, so please avail of a free event ticket if you so choose.
