BIO
From festivals and house concerts to touring the small towns of Canada’s west coast, Brian denHertog has been performing his songs for more than thirty years. Along the way he has been a carpenter, high school shop teacher, carver and jeweller. His songs are rooted in the elements of acoustic folk, roots and Canadiana. As a traveller and story teller, Brian’s songs traverse physical and spiritual landscapes. His music illuminates the road less travelled and the way back home.
Brian has released four studio albums in the last 25 years. His latest recording, “Heart Rings Like a Temple Bell” was released at the beginning of 2024. Brian is most often joined on stage by his wife, multi instrumentalist Jill Russell. They currently live in Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island.
“Brian denHertog has been many things in his life… a teacher, a carver, a traveller and one of my oldest friends. Somehow his music seems to embody many of these different paths. There is something rough, handmade, honest and beautiful at the heart of Brian’s tunes and always, a compassion and a warmth that I find very appealing.”
-Stephen Fearing, Juno Award Winning Singer-Songwriter, Blackie and the Rodeo Kings
“Virtuoso performances and interesting arrangements anchoring strong, if quirky and genre-defying songs.”

BIO
Jill Russell has been making music since she hopped out of the nest and shook out her wings. A childhood spent in a community band, summer music camps and band trips led to jazz studies in university.
Post studies, her flight path took her to San Francisco’s vibrant latin and new wave music scene followed by six years and hundreds of shows touring with Brazilian master musician Celso Machado.
Jill spent time playing in Denver’s jazz scene and recorded “Check the Beans” in Miami with some of Brazil’s finest musicians.
In 2000, Jill returned to Vancouver and for several years played jazz and World Music Festivals fronting her own band, Corcovado. An interest in flamenco music and dance led to festivals and tablaos in New Mexico and southern Spain.
Jill’s migratory path landed on Vancouver Island in 2020 and she has been busy performing and teaching from Campbell River to the Cowichan Valley in a variety of projects.
These days find her most often in the backyard with the dog and cat, in full conversation with a pair of ravens that visit daily. In many ways, both musically and metaphorically, Jill embodies the Raven: music is her first language and like a trickster hopping from foot to foot she always has something fresh, surprising and beautiful to say.
