Wherever you live, the rattlesnakes don't care! Be proactive and take the tried-and-true Rattlesnake Avoidance Clinic at the Western Gateway Dog Park on Sunday, April 13th. It's $125/per dog. The professional rattle-wranglers come from our friends at Get Rattled - Rattlesnake Avoidance Training for Dogs. based out of Reno. They use a short harmless twinge with a shock collar to SAFELY and HARMLESSLY train your dog not to engage with the smell of the nearby rattler. YES, they use real snakes, but they are defanged. Nothing will harm your dog, but if you DON'T expose your dog to this correction, your dog might be harmed if they encounter a rattlesnake!
Trust me, I put my dog through this training every year! We had a previous dog who DID get bit and he nearly died. It was a very expensive procedure to save his life, complete with a blood transfusion.
Some people don't agree with the shock collar. I guess I would rather make a dog uncomfortable for a few seconds instead of having him suffer (or die) with the repercussions of a bite.
