About this Event
We will be walking through the places where England’s maritime adventure began, over 500 years ago. On the way, I will point out some significant features which describe how, beginning with a few adventurous explorers, Ratcliffe became the birthplace of a worldwide trading enterprise which brought fabulous wealth to some, triggered the industrial revolution, and turned London into the greatest port in the world and the hub of a global empire. The walk starts at Shadwell station, to the River Thames, through Ratcliffe towards Limehouse. It will last about 90 minutes, ending at a riverside pub dating back to 1588.
