Rasus y Bannau is a trio of mountain races that start and finish in Brecon, each taking in the rugged beauty of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.Choose your challenge:
*100K with 5,100m ascent
*75K with 3,500m ascent
*26 miles with 2,000m ascent
All routes traverse the iconic Bannau peaks, with the 100K and 75K distances venturing deep into the wilds and remote Fans of Fforest Fawr—home to the formidable Fan Gyhirych.
Expect a serious test of your mountain running ability, with some of the finest climbs and descents the National Park has to offer. But while the terrain is uncompromising, the event isn’t without mercy - runners can opt to drop down to a shorter race mid-course and still earn a medal for that distance.
The Legend Behind the Logo
The Rasus y Bannau logo draws inspiration from Welsh mythology. Accoding to legend, Arawn, the king of Annwn - the otherworld rides the skies in early spring leading the Wild Hunt. The logo depicts his spectral hounds, the Cŵn Annwn, who pursue wrongdoers relentlessly, chasing them until they can run no more!
A line from an old Welsh saying about Arawn captures the spirit of the race:
"Hir yw’r dydd a hir yw’r nos" – "Long is the day and long is the night."
A fitting phrase for mountain races with 24-hour cutoffs… one long day and night to outrun the hounds.
