Join Rewa Grimsdale (Te Atiawa, Ngāti Raukawa, Te Arawa, Ngāti Tuwharetoa, Ngāti Pākeha) for a raranga (weaving) workshop on our new (postponed) date of Sat 12 October. You'll learn how to make practical items like kete and rope from natural materials, locally sourced from te taio (the environment). Phil from Urban Ark will weave in (short) stories about each plant species used and place them in the context of our local environmental restoration activities and Rewa will teach you about their rongoa (medicinal) properties. Kawa kawa tea will be provided.Rewa comes from a line of weavers and artists and has been teaching for 12 years. This free workshop is sponsored by Urban Ark and will be popular, so make sure you book early to reserve one of 10 limited spots.
