Experience the joy and passion of traditional Raqs Sharqi for the next 8 Wednesdays at 5 pm. This multi-level class will focus on developing technique in executing traditional movement vocabulary with strength, flow and clarity. Through the teaching of Tarifa's Eskandarani choreography, students will improve their kinesthetic awareness, sense of musicality and ability to capture that unique middle eastern essence by becoming more aware of the characteristic nuances of the cultural dances. About the dance.... Tarifa's Eskanarani choreography captures the playful, flirtatious movements so typically seen among the Egyption women who frequent the port city of Alexandria. This choreography employs the playing of Sagat which adds to the overall playful dynamic.
Students should come to each class on time with a readiness to move non-stop for 60 minutes. Please wear non-restrictive clothing, including a hip scarf, belt or practice skirt. Please bring finger cymbals to each class if you have them.
