An immersive four-hour workshop devoted to the heart of Egyptian dance by Egyptian dance artist Virginia Masri.

Drawing on decades of lived experience, cultural lineage, and professional work as a performer, choreographer, and teacher, this workshop offers dancers a rare opportunity to study Egyptian dance from the inside out. Rooted in culture, musicality, and embodied understanding, Egyptian from the Ground Up goes beyond steps and shapes, it reconnects the dance to its source.
Trained with the great masters of Egyptian dance and raised within the culture itself, Virginia brings forward a signature approach that honours tradition while making it accessible, alive, and relevant for today’s dancers. This Masterclass is designed for the new generation, as well as for dancers who sense there is a need for more depth to explore within the oriental form and are ready to refine their understanding.
Expect clear foundations, nuanced movement, cultural context, and an emphasis on grounded presence the elements that give Egyptian dance its unmistakable soul.

This masterclass is ideal for dancers who value both technical refinement and theoretical insight, and who wish to engage with Raqs Masri through an artist-of-origin perspective.
Participants will explore what it means to engage responsibly with Raqs Masri as students, performers, teachers, and members of the wider dance community, with an emphasis on cultural awareness, integrity, and continued learning.
The final hour invites participants into an open, guided discussion covering cultural context, artistic responsibility, and respectful engagement with Egyptian dance. This interactive session encourages reflection, dialogue, and questions, creating space for deeper understanding beyond movement alone.
