AT EMEAC and Jazz @ The Commons, We stand on the mighty shoulders of Ernie Rodgers and the RAPA House Concert Cafe, an after-hours that hosted and attracted all of the greatest names in Jazz music for decades, staging breathtaking all-night jam sessions, making space for unbridled creativity and synergy.
First a talent agency, LaJune and Ernie Rodgers grew the RAPA House out of the Rogers Academy of Performing House. Equal parts pioneers in independent and entrepreneurial placemaking and creators who used their art to showcase the stories of an often overlooked neighborhood in Paradise Valley, the Rodgers created a template that we merely build on and attempt to perfect to this day.

Proceeds support the work environmental justice, arts and culture, and black liberation. All autumn Jazz @ The Commons directly benefits and sustains our schools for environmental justice program, in which EMEAC staff provide auxiliary and supplementary curricular engagement to DPSCD students blending environmental justice, STEAM learning, and nature- and justice-centered self-transformation work.
