The Evans and Keystone Canyons Loop is a popular 6-mile trail in Reno, Nevada, offering a moderate hike with approximately 1,000 ft of elevation gain. This scenic route connects two major canyons and provides expansive views of the Reno skyline and the surrounding mountains.
Trail Details
Distance: Approximately 6 miles (6.3–6.4 miles according to recent tracking).
Elevation Gain: Around 1,000 ft (some sources estimate 745–761 ft depending on the specific route taken).
Difficulty: Rated as Moderate; it is suitable for hikers, mountain bikers, and trail runners.
Terrain: Features a mix of dry, sage-dotted hills, rocky paths, and some steep sections. There is very little to no shade, so bringing plenty of water is essential.
Features: You will pass interesting rock formations, old mine shafts, and tailings piles. A short spur trail leads to the iconic University of Nevada, Reno "N" on the hillside.
Meeting Point: Evans Canyon Trailhead parking (near the Basque Monument).
