This new documentary, “Ralph Peer And The Rise of American Roots Music,” focuses on Peer’s legacy as the "Father of American Roots Music," starting with his work in his father’s gramophone repair shop in Independence.The FREE program will include a panel discussion and live performances of songs from the formative years of the music recording industry.
Featured participants include Chuck Haddix, Director of The Marr Sound Archives at UMKC; Ralph Monaco, Jackson County historian; Bob and Diana Suckiel, musicians and co-hosts of KKFI’s “Foolkiller Folk,” and local folk singers Gary V. Kirkland and Mim Carlson.
