About this Event
For more than a year, the Metropolitan Recreation Center in Williamsburg has been closed, leaving local residents without access to one of Brooklyn’s few indoor public pools. The closure has disrupted a vital affordable recreation resource for the neighborhood, with little public information about when it will reopen.
Join neighbors, elected officials and advocates for a rally calling for the reopening of the Metropolitan Recreation Center and stronger investment in recreation across New York City.
The community is calling for transparency, communication, and meaningful community engagement from NYC Parks about the status of Metropolitan Rec Center. We are also calling on the NYC Mayor to fund the repairs needed to reopen Met Rec Center and invest in recreation centers citywide so New Yorkers have access to the facilities they rely on.
This rally is co-hosted by Council Member Jennifer Gutiérrez, Council Member Lincoln Restler and Assemblymember Emily Gallagher.
Following the rally, participants are encouraged to walk together to the Brooklyn Community Board 1 Parks Committee meeting to continue advocating for Metropolitan Rec Center and recreation funding when NYC Parks presents about Met Rec Center to the Parks committee at 6 pm.
Rally location: In front of Metropolitan Recreation Center, 261 Bedford Ave., Williamsburg
Date: Wednesday, March 25
Time: 5:00 pm
Stand with the community and help send a clear message: New Yorkers deserve transparent communication, real investment in recreation, and fully funded rec centers in every neighborhood.
