ODSP Action Coalition has partnered with Ontario Disability Coalition to hold a rally in front of Queen's Park on Sept. 28th, starting at noon, to draw attention to the issue and demand an immediate rate increase, particularly for ODSP as many clients' disabilities prevent them (us) from participate in the labour market. We are encouraging all attendees to respect masking and physical distancing guidelines, regardless of vaccination status.
As part of the rally, we also will present our "Report Card" grades, based on the results of our (non-scientific) survey.
FACT: ODSP benefit rates have been frozen since 2018
FACT: A single person w/a disability on ODSP receives a max of $1169/month ($497 for Shelter + $697 for Basic Needs)
FACT: The vast majority of ODSP clients live in private market rentals
FACT: Rents have increased at least 5.8% since 2018
FACT: Food costs have increased at least 10% since 2018
FACT: Many ODSP clients have disabilities that prevent them from fully or partially participating in the labour market
FACT: People with disabilities have additional costs attributable to their disability
