About this Event

Many thanks to Grubb Ventures for allowing me to conduct tours of the Raleigh Iron Works property!

This tour is pay-what-you-want ! If you enjoy the tour, please compensate your guide appropriately! CASH ONLY please! Usually, the guide receives $15 to $20 per adult, but you are free to give more or less than that, depending on how you feel about your tour. As you can imagine, the tour guide has to work hard to earn your appreciation!

Tours have always been pay-what-you-want, but advance registration is REQUIRED. I need to monitor the number of people on the tour, and I also need to be able to communicate with you if the tour needs to be cancelled due to the weather.

THIS TOUR REQUIRES A MINIMUM NUMBER OF SIGNUPS IN ORDER TO RUN! If the minimum number is not reached, the tour will be cancelled. You will receive either a tour confirmation email with some last minute details or a cancellation email through Eventbrite no later than 24 hours prior to the scheduled time of the tour. Please check your email the day before the tour and please read any email that you receive about the tour through Eventbrite!

Raleigh Iron Works opened to the public in 2023 and has repurposed historical buildings into a mixed-use development containing restaurants, retail, office, and residential space. On the Raleigh Iron Works tour, you will step into the past while enjoying the present! Explore the transformed industrial landscape where steel once forged the city's future, now reimagined with vibrant murals that tell stories of our community's heritage.

This guided experience takes you around the architectural remnants of Raleigh's industrial heyday while showcasing contemporary artistic expressions that breathe new life into these historic spaces. Perfect for history buffs, art enthusiasts, and curious minds alike. Join us for an exploration of Raleigh's proud past and creative present!

The address of Raleigh Iron Works is 1101 East Whitaker Mill Road. Parking is available at several locations on the property and includes a parking garage.

The starting point for the tour is at the west end of the property, which is closest to Whitaker Mill Road. We will begin across the street from Little Rey, at the building that says RIW at the top! The property is large, so please be sure that you are at the correct location! If you park in the parking garage, the starting point is at the opposite end of the property. If you can see the slide, you are also at the opposite end of the property from the starting point!

The tour will be approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes long, but may be slightly shorter depending on the size and speed of the group. This will be a tour of the grounds only, so we will not be entering any of the buildings on the tour.

Be sure to stay at RIW after the tour and eat lunch at one of the great restaurants on site!

I look forward to seeing you on the tour!
