Class Fee: $30.00
Raku is a low fire process that results in a wide variety of colors. No two are ever alike. We get glaze colors ranging from coppers and golds to greens, yellows, reds, and blues. You may create a new one! These workshops allow the novice to learn the basics of low fired glazes, application, and firing on bisque pottery forms.
Students may select from a wide variety of bisque pottery pieces available at Iron & Lace. Pieces range from $5.00 to $40.00 for bisque fired forms ranging from slab and cookie cutter ornaments to small, medium, and large pots and vases. If you are bringing your own bisque pieces to fire, you need preapproval, please contact us. (This raku firing is NOT suitable for pieces intended for eating or drinking due to the metallic nature of the glaze.)
All pieces are fired in propane fueled kilns heated to approximately 1800 degrees F, and post-reduction fired in containers using various organic materials. Come expecting to learn a lot and have a pot-full of fun!
Time: Starts at 9:00A.M. and runs through the day until everyone is done firing, sometimes as late as 6:00 P.M. Due to the loosely structured nature of the workshop, it is possible to spend as little as two hours or as long as all day, depending on your schedule.
Location: Class is held next to the Blacksmith Academy, behind Iron & Lace on hawk Drive in Bentonsport, Iowa.
Notes: Everyone will take home their completed work. Long pants are recommended and shoes are required. If it is a hot day, bring a water bottle as we will be outside all day. Food is available in Keosauqua and Bonaparte, or bring a bag lunch.
Students must register in advance on the Villages Folk School website. Click here to register: https://villagesfolkschool.com/classes.html?class=40
