About this Event

Rain Barrel Workshop with Brown County Soil & Water Conservation District

Turn rainfall into a resource and make a direct impact on local water quality!

Join Brown County Soil & Water Conservation District for a hands-on Rain Barrel Workshop where you’ll learn how to capture and reuse rainwater right from your own roof.

Why Rain Barrels Matter

Rain barrels are a simple, affordable way to:

  • 💧 Reduce stormwater runoff and erosion
  • 🌊 Protect local creeks and Lake Monroe from polluted runoff
  • 🌱 Provide natural, chlorine-free water for gardens and native plants
  • 💵 Lower your household water use and utility costs
  • 🌎 Support conservation efforts right here in Brown County

When rain falls on rooftops and hard surfaces, it quickly runs off, carrying sediment and pollutants into our waterways. Rain barrels slow that flow and put water to work in your yard instead.

What You’ll Learn

During this workshop, participants will:

  • Learn why stormwater management is important in Brown County
  • Understand how rain barrels protect water quality
  • See a step-by-step demonstration of how to convert a food-grade barrel into a working rain barrel
  • Learn proper installation, overflow setup, and seasonal maintenance
  • Gain the confidence to install and maintain a rain barrel at home

Registration Details

Registration is $100 per participant.
This fee covers:

  • One rain barrel
  • Painting supplies to customize your barrel
  • Workshop materials
  • Light snacks

Gutter conversion kits will be available for purchase the day of the workshop for an additional cost.
Please note: Cash or check only for gutter conversion kit purchases made during the workshop.

Whether you’re a homeowner, gardener, or simply interested in protecting our local water resources, this workshop offers practical tools you can put to use immediately.
