About this Event
Rah! & A.L.Lacey - Meditative free-jazz concert
Rah! is a Bristol free-improv collective concerting their debut EP - Temenos - inside the great acoustics of the Bristol Music Club in the heart of Clifton.
The group plays entirely improvised music built around shared pulse and repetition rather than fixed songs or melodies. Their sound moves through minimalist, neo-classical, trance rhythm, ambient texture, and slow-burning groove — somewhere between spiritual jazz, kraut energy, and the deep stillness of drone. Expect: hypnotic, raw, and emotive.
A.L.Lacey is a classically trained pianist and vocalist renowned for her multi-faceted vocal arrangements and post-modern piano compositions. Her work blends classical technique with avant-garde influences, creating a unique, kinetic, sound that challenges traditional boundaries. Lacey’s debut album, released through Human Worth in early 24’, showcases her innovative approach to music- “Perhaps because she’s been doing this for a lot longer than the arrival of a debut would imply, Alice’s accomplishment as both a musician and a composer shine through every moment of this spellbinding collection of songs”(Christopher Nosnibor, Aural Aggravation)
Alice and Rah! members are active participants in Bristol’s vibrant improvised and experimental scene, performing in projects such as Improv Greatest Hits, Community Jam Collective, Freejazz Gachapon at The Dark Horse, The Broken Numbers, Byrfyfyr Free Improv, Elmer’s Arms, and others.
For this day:
- Alice Dyson - violin
- A. L. Lacey (special guest) - piano
