You chose your seedling, decided on a good place for it, prepared its soil, watered it for the first time, turned your back and walked away, days passed, perhaps weeks, the rains came, and then snow, winds blew, every now and then you came and checked, it had grown to your height, it had held up well, its roots could sink as deep as eternity, then came spring and then came summer, the sun rose, the moon set, Venus came up, you were already dead, who knows where your grandchildren woke up, some had departed, those who arrived had departed from other places, it didn’t work out, some things went wrong, the tree grew, there used to be one house in the distance, then there were three, then five, then five hundred, murders took place in its shade, and of course, some kissed, too, some never realized it stood there, and some gave it water.Then they chopped it down.
And thank goodness for that because the pavement needed widening.
This performance was constructed upon a misunderstanding of the world, humanity, mountains, the earth and the sky. It has absolutely nothing to do with the tree mentioned above. The performance is interested in knowing where the grandchildren wake up.

A dream country, Çıplak Ayaklar Kumpanyası was founded in 2003, in Istanbul’s vibrant neighborhood Beyoğlu, made up mostly of dancers with contemporary backgrounds. Since its founding, they have valued production through sharing and have achieved forming their own language. Over time, this production expanded through forms of body, movement, shows and workshops, earning the Company not only its own audience but also help enlist new amateur and professional dancers into the field.

Du valde din planta, bestämde dig för en bra plats för den, förberedde dess jord, vattnade den för första gången, vände ryggen till och gick därifrån, dagar gick, kanske veckor, regnet kom, och sedan blåste snö, vindar, då och då gick du och kollade till den, den hade vuxit och blivit lika lång som du, den hade klarat sig bra, dess rötter sjönk lika djupt som evigheten, så kom våren och så kom sommaren, solen gick upp, månen gick ner, Venus gick upp, du var redan död, vem vet var dina barnbarn vaknade upp, några hade åkt härifrån, de som kom hade åkt från andra platser, det gick inte enligt plan, vissa saker gick fel, men trädet växte, ett hus i fjärran brukade synas, sedan blev det tre, sedan fem, sedan femhundra hus, mord ägde rum i dess skugga, och naturligtvis några gömda kyssar, vissa insåg aldrig att det stod där, och andra gav det vatten.
Sedan högg de ner det.
Och tack och lov för det, för trottoaren behövde breddas.
Den här föreställningen bygger på ett missförstånd av världen, mänskligheten, bergen, jorden och himlen. Det har absolut ingenting att göra med trädet som nämns ovan. Föreställningen är intresserad av att veta vart barnbarnen vaknar upp.
Ett drömland, Çıplak Ayaklar Kumpanyası grundades 2003, i Istanbuls livliga stadsdel Beyoğlu, som mestadels består av dansare med bakgrund inom samtida dans. Sedan starten har de värderat produktion genom delning, och har lyckats skapa sitt eget språk. Med tiden expanderade denna form av produktion genom former av kropp, rörelse, shower och workshops, vilket inte bara byggt upp kompaniets egen publik, utan också har hjälpt till att rekrytera nya amatörer och professionella dansare till fältet.

RADIX is a platform where citizens, artists and scholars can re-examine the practice of theatre as radical. Since 2022 it has hosted a series of public lectures, talks and live performances on radicality in theatre as that which adhered an origin, or root – from the Latin radix. Theatre is here to be understood as the arena in which performance takes place. In this special edition of RADIX focus will be placed on performances onstage that find intimate ties with the concept of prophecy.
RADIX takes place March 22-29, with daily performances. Each evening is followed by a public talk with the audience that is optional to participate in/listen to. The program is subject to change, keep updated by checking the website.
RADIX is curated by Josephine Gray and Anmar Taha, artistic directors of IBODIES, and in co-production with Atalante.
