Radical Nonfiction Book Group with Carlo
Discussing Blackshirts and Reds: Rational Fascism and the Overthrow of Communism by Michael Parenti
Led by former Greenlight bookseller Carlo, our Radical Nonfiction Book Group meets monthly to read and discuss nonfiction titles related to the issues of history, politics, and the promise of a better world, just around the corner!
For March, the group discusses Blackshirts and Reds by Michael Parenti. A political scientist, historian, and cultural critic, Parenti explores some of the big issues of our time: fascism, capitalism, communism, revolution, democracy, and ecology – terms often bandied about but seldom explored in the original and exciting way that has become Parenti’s trademark. In Blackshirts and Reds, Parenti shows how “rational fascism” renders service to capitalism, how corporate power undermines democracy, and how revolutions are a mass empowerment against the forces of exploitative privilege.
