ποΈ Lecture: The Science of Volcanic Eruptions
π¨βπ« Speaker: Dr. Samantha Tramontano
Themes: scientific Β· geological Β· fascinating
Why and when do volcanoes erupt? How do we study eruptions that happened thousands of years ago? And how do we monitor active volcanoes today? Join volcanologist Dr. Samantha Tramontano as she unpacks the science behind volcanic eruptions, debunks the myth that they can be "overdue," and explains how researchers use crystals, gases, and lava samples to understand these explosive forces of nature.
Dr. Samantha Tramontano is a postdoctoral research and teaching fellow at the American Museum of Natural History. In 2021, she was on the ground collecting samples during the eruption of Cumbre Vieja in the Canary Islands. She continues to study volcanic emissions through fieldwork and experiments while mentoring graduate students in the museumβs Master of Arts in Teaching program.
Donβt miss this chance to learn and connect in a relaxed, engaging atmosphere. ππ»
