About this Event
Have you ever wanted to make a quilt but don't know where to start? Do you love sewing straight lines but ran out of interesting project ideas? In this workshop, we will dive into the world of quilting with a fresh perspective and help you find new inspiration to use your fabric stash or remnants!
You will walk away with inspiration and a newfound confidence to keep going! The goal is to learn about quilting, basic techniques and make your own quilt block (at least 1).
Topics covered in this workshop are as follows:
Part 1 (lecture style):
- Key components of a quilt
- Common quilting fabrics
- Solids vs. patterns
- What's a Jelly Roll? Fat Quarter?
- Major quilting design styles
- Must-have tools for quilting
- Design your own Block
Part 2 (hands-on sewing):
- Common block styles and how they're made
- How to cut on a bias (aka sew triangles)
- Sew a quilting Block
Please bring some fabric that you'd like to cut and experiment with. We recommend cotton, flannel or shirting fabric. If you don't have a stash, look for 'jelly rolls' in colors that you like! Avoid anything that's stretchy, sheer or lacy, super thick (no faux furs) or rigid. We will provide sewing machine, ruler, rotary cutter, iron and cutting mat!
Note: This is an advanced beginner workshop for attendees who have had some experience sewing with a sewing machine. If you are completely new to sewing, we highly recommend attending a beginner sewing workshop first.
