About this Event
"The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind." ~Caroline Myss
Research shows that social support helps us live longer, happier, and healthier lives.
Welcome. You are invited into a space of inspiration, reflection, wisdom, and a sense of belonging.
Come discover a deeper way of being together as we gather in Circle. By practicing a bit of silence, we deepen our capacity to support each other.
We remember that gathering in Circle is the practice of imperfection and constant learning. Its capacity to hold us in moments of insight, transformation, and heartfulness is unmatched.
We gather in Circle to take care of ourselves, respect silence, listen generously, share and witness our stories, honor the wholeness in each other, and embrace mystery and uncertainty.
In this season we watch the daily journey of the sun grow shorter and shorter. There’s a chill in the air, the branches nearly bare, and we are reaching for blankets and shawls. Give yourself the gift of slow-time and quiet.
Join us in a beautiful woodsy setting to:
- Practice knowing stillness and silence in community
- Invite contemplative interaction and reflection with written word and images
- Make space for "active silence" where we will gather comfortably to read, journal, do hand-work or artwork, or engage in some similar quiet activity
Take this opportunity to reset and connect with nature, yourself, and others. Don't miss out on this chance to rest and recharge. Quiet IS quieting.
This day retreat is offered on a sliding scale fee. Please pay what you can afford. Your generosity helps Ludington Hermitage retreats continue and remain affordable.

Agenda

WELCOME, Introductions and Circle of Care #1
Info: In our Circle of Care we will create a safe and welcoming space by introducing and upholding a set of agreements. Our Circle basically has 4 parts: a brief check-in, a heart-sharing round, a take-away round and a closing. Candle-light, a bell, readings, prompts, sharing, reflections and the use of silence will guide our way forward.
🕑: 12:00 PM - 01:00 PM
Lunch Break
Info: Please bring your own lunch. We will gather together to practice mindful eating in silence the first 5 minutes. We will then enjoy conversation together.
🕑: 01:00 PM - 02:30 PM
Circle of Care #2 + Break + Silent Sit
Info: After Circle of Care #2 we will have a short break (2:00-2:15) followed by a silent sitting practice (2:15-2:30).
🕑: 02:30 PM - 04:00 PM
Active Silence
Info: We will gather comfortably to read, journal, do hand-work or artwork, or engage in some similar quiet activity together.
🕑: 04:00 PM - 04:30 PM
Reflections, Sharing, Closing
Info: A quote from Rachel Naomi Remen: A loving silence often has far more power to heal and to connect than the most well-intentioned words…Perhaps the most important thing we bring to another person is the silence in us, not the sort of silence that is filled with unspoken criticism or hard withdrawal. The sort of silence that is a place of refuge, of rest, of acceptance of someone as they are. We are all hungry for this other silence. It is hard to find. In its presence, we can remember something beyond the moment, a strength on which to build a life. Silence is a place of great power and healing.
