Dr. Ellen Grant was born, raised, and educated in Buffalo, New York, and her work has always been rooted in service, care, and community leadership. A licensed mental health therapist and consultant, she brings decades of experience supporting individuals and institutions through periods of transition, pressure, and change.
Most recently, Dr. Grant served as Senior Executive Director at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center. Prior to that, she spent seven years as Deputy Mayor of the City of Buffalo under Mayor Byron Brown. Across healthcare, public service, and community mental health, she has held senior leadership roles that were often historic in nature, opening doors in institutions where few, and sometimes no women of color had served before.
Her career has included executive leadership positions with BlueCross Blue Shield, Buffalo General Hospital, the Erie County Department of Mental Health, and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, where her work consistently centered access, innovation, and human-centered care. In parallel with her leadership roles, Dr. Grant has developed and implemented pioneering mental health programs, taught at the university level, served on national advisory boards, and remained deeply engaged in public service and advocacy. She is also the author of The Female Workers’ Fourteen Commandments for Powering Your Career.
At Quiet Conversations, Dr. Grant draws on both her professional experience and personal insight to explore how we move from overwhelm toward clarity, resilience, and a renewed sense of personal power.
With gratitude, Dr. Grant has chosen to donate her honorarium back to PAUSA in support of the Quiet Conversations series.
