Join Queers in ʻĀina for a hike through Kīlauea Iki crater in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park! Learn about the cultural legacy and natural history of this ʻāina as we traverse this unique landscape.
Kīlauea Iki is a 3.3 mile loop trail located within the park. This is a moderately difficult trail, with a 400 foot descent and ascent into and out of the crater. The hike can take 2 to 3 hours (I am estimating 4 hours to be on the safe side). We will move at a comfortable pace so as not to exhaust ourselves. Please know your abilities before registering. Parking is EXTREMELY LIMITED. I will be in touch prior to this event to help arrange carpooling, so please register asap! It costs $30 per vehicle to visit, so the more folks we can get to carpool, the less we all have to pay. If anyone has a park pass, that is also extremely helpful.
Please bring:
- comfortable hiking shoes/ outdoor wear
- rain gear
- hat, sunscreen, sunglasses
- plenty of water
- snacks or a light lunch
- camera
- binoculars
- toilet paper
I will be bringing a trash bag for us to pack out toilet paper/ personal rubbish and any trash we find along the way.
