About this Event
Who says being a writer has to be lonely? If you’re looking to expand your circle and develop relationships with fellow queer and trans writers, join us for Writing Group Speed Dating at Hive Mind Books in Bushwick.
We’ll turn prompts into stories, notes into critiques, and strangers into writing buddies. Speed date local writers over coffee and words, and who knows: you may find the writing group of your dreams. This event is specifically for trans and queer writers.

Here's how it works:
IN ADVANCE:
- RSVP now! Seats are capped at 16. RSVPs will close one week before the event.
- Once RSVPs close, you will be emailed 2-3 prompts to choose from.
- Please send back one piece of writing responding to one of the prompts, 500 words max, before the night of the event.
- If you can no longer make it, please let us know so that we can give the spot to someone else.
THE NIGHT OF THE EVENT:
- Everyone is divided into groups of four.
- Copies of your writing sample will be shared with your group.
- Everyone has a few minutes to read all of the samples.
- Within those groups, you will give each other feedback on your samples, going one writer at a time.
- After you've all shared feedback, we'll switch up the tables and put everyone into new groups to meet other folks.
- The reading and feedback process repeats!
Each writer will receive constructive feedback. (No tear downs, we’re here to support each other. Specific questions to guide feedback will be provided.)
This event is free to attend. Our coffee and tea counter will be open for the duration of the evening. This event is co-hosted by Hive Mind Books and local writer Mik!

Hive Mind Books is a queer and trans bookstore and coffee shop in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Our coffee and tea bar will be open for the duration of this event.
