Queer Book Group with Alex
Discusses Miss Major Speaks: Conversations with a Black Trans Revolutionary by Miss Major Griffin-Gracy and Toshio Meronek
Led by former Greenlight bookseller Alex, our Queer Book Group meets monthly to discuss contemporary fiction and nonfiction titles that relate to queer experience, identity, and community.
For March, the group discusses Miss Major Speaks, by the titular legendary elder and activist: Miss Majors Griffin-Gracy. A veteran of the infamous Stonewall Riots, a former sex worker, and a transgender survivor of Bellevue psychiatric hospital, Attica Pr*son, the HIV/AIDS crisis and a world that white supremacy has built—Miss Majors offers something that cannot be found elsewhere: her personal reflection on a lifetime of struggle and the future of black, queer, and trans liberation; and an affirmation that our vision for freedom can and must be more expansive than those on offer by mainstream institutions.
