About this Event
Set between late ’80s Chicago and the American South, this poignant novel follows Isaac as he reckons with identity, masculinity, family, and belonging. After growing up under the weight of a rigid and painful definition of manhood, Isaac finally begins to claim his tenderness, creativity, and queerness—only to have that hard-won sense of self shaken by the AIDS crisis and a nation grappling with violence and injustice. Through therapy and writing, Isaac traces his story back to his family’s past and uncovers truths that challenge everything he thought he understood about himself and where he comes from.
Lyrical, emotionally rich, and deeply moving, Isaac’s Song is a powerful continuation of the world introduced in Don’t Cry for Me and a book that invites reflection, conversation, and connection.
Queer Book Club is a welcoming, low-pressure space to connect with and learn from the LGBTQIA+ community, make new friends, and explore meaningful and diverse reads together. Finishing the book is never mandatory—whether you’ve read a few chapters or the whole thing, your voice is welcome. Meetings are offered both in person and on Zoom, so join us in the way that works best for you.
