Escape to 17th-century Amsterdam without leaving Michigan. On Wednesday, February 25, we’ll be discussing the work of historical fiction, I Am You, a luminous story of art, resilience, and the women who refused to stay in the shadows. I Am You, written by Victoria Redel, reimagines the lives of real artists Maria van Oosterwijck and her servant, Gerta Pieters. The story follows Gerta, who is disguised as a boy, as she becomes the apprentice, muse, and lover to the renowned painter Maria, exploring themes of love, art, gender, class, and identity in the male-dominated Dutch Golden Age art world. It's a queer love story and a meditation on artistic creation, known for its vivid prose and exploration of complex relationships.Join facilitators, Jessa and Heather, from 7:30-9:00pm for good conversations and community vibes.
