“Among the most unmissable films to hit U.S. theaters this year.” — RogerEbert.com“Neo Sora’s follow-up to last year’s Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus is a near-future coming-of-age story with a sweetly optimistic script and a prescient message. It’s also one of the best films showing at Venice.” — A Rabbit’s Foot
Plainwater Films x New Farm Cinemas presents, in partnership with Container: Brisbane Film Society, the Queensland premiere of the award-winning debut fiction feature from Japanese filmmaker Neo Sora (director of Ryuichi Sakamoto | Opus, and son of the late composer). Set in near-future Tokyo, HAPPYEND follows best friends Yuta and Kou as they approach graduation in a society shadowed by the threat of a catastrophic earthquake. A prank on their principal leads to the installation of a surveillance system at their school, forcing the two into opposing responses as political tensions outside grow darker.
The screening follows a pre-recorded intro by filmmaker Neo Sora.
