About this Event
Qingming, also known as the Tomb-Sweeping Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival that falls around 4 or 5th of April. It is a time for families to honor their ancestors, tidy their gravesites, and remember loved ones who have passed away.
At the same time, Qingming is closely connected with the arrival of spring. As the weather becomes warmer and nature begins to bloom, people go outdoors to enjoy the fresh air and green landscapes.
One beautiful Qingming tradition is flying kites. In ancient times, people believed that flying kites could carry away bad luck and send wishes into the sky. Some would even write messages on their kites, symbolically releasing worries and inviting good fortune for the year ahead.
At this workshop, I will start by sharing my family traditions and stories about Qingming. Participants are also welcome to share their own stories if they’d like. Afterward, you’ll receive step-by-step guidance on how to make your own kite.
This workshop is suitable for families. Tea and cookies will be served to enjoy during the session.
One ticket is for one kite, one adult with one kid.
If the weather allows, we can fly the kites in the park across from our shop.
