  • Bob Chok On February 13th, 2026 3:55 PM at Berkshire Medical Center I lost Peter the love of my life. Peter and I were together for 25 years. Married for 19 years. In 2016 Peter was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. In 2014 when we both retired, we moved from the Berkshires to Florida. While in Florida we traveled extensively mostly on cruises. We visited dozens of countries in Europe, Central America and trips to Alaska and Hawaii. When I met Peter, he didn’t even have a passport. Retirement was supposed to be our time together doing the things we enjoyed. During the early years of Parkinson’s Peter used a cane. We left Florida and moved back to the Berkshire’s in December 2019 and bought a house in Lenox. Peter’s Parkinson’s progressed and in November 2023 Peter had his first ambulance ride to the hospital. Peter was now confined to a wheelchair. During 2024 and 2025 Peter had over a dozen rides to the hospital with stays of up to two weeks. Three times he had to go to rehabilitation centers averaging six weeks. I had equipped our home with every device necessary to keep Peter out of a nursing home. For me taking care of Peter was a 24/7 job I gladly did because I knew he would do it for me. Now after losing him I feel lost. Every evening I still have dinner sitting at our dining room table, candles lit, my chair opposaite his and I raise a glass of wine and tell him I love him. It’s too early to even think of what the future holds for me. I know I’m not the only person gay person to lose a spouse or partner but I think connecting with others will help me on my future journey.

DRAFT GROUND RULES, which the group can & will evolve as they get experience with what works and what might work better:

  1. CONFIDENTIALITY: We agree to maintain confidentiality of what others say in group, and not repeat anything they said in a way that could identify them
  2. VULNERABILITY: We agree to endeavor to share both our strengths, struggles, and what's important to us.
  3. SHARE ONLY OUR EXPERIENCE & VICTORIES & NOT GIVE ADVICE: To create trust among peers, we agree to only share our own victories, struggles, & what's happening with us, and not to give anyone else advice. If we want to share our experience & victories with a group member outside of group time, we will ask that member for permission, continuing to remember we avoid giving advice.
  4. REGULAR ATTENDANCE: After our 1st or 2nd time, we make a commitment to show up for group regularly for at least 3 months, & to let the co-facilitator know if we have an emergency and can’t attend. We have faith that our input is important and helps the group learn better, so we show up as best we can to share our experience, victories, struggles, & intentions.
  5. GROUP SUSTAINABILITY DEPENDS ON A BALANCE OF GIVING & RECEIVING: . We understand the group depends on volunteers to help with co-facilitating the group, space setup & cleanup, helping to promote the group by dropping off flyers at places each of us goes where queer men might see that flyer, reaching out to newcomers after their 1st meeting, & contributing both time & money to sustain Q-MoB. Q-MoB has a grant from Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation South Berkshire Fund that pays scholarships for men who may find it difficult to donate money. The continuation of this group depends on members donating some time & money at the group & organizational level.
  6. NO POLITICAL DEBATES OR ACTIVISM: This group is focused on each member's grief journey, strengths, challenges, & priorities, and we are not going to get distracted by discussions of politics or taking political action as a group.

REACHING US DAY OF THE GROUP: If you have trouble finding the apartment, will be late, or decide not to attend, please text the Host at his cell phone number that will be in your confirmation email. And if you have questions before registering, you can or call/text 413-344-8162
