Q-Club began in 2013 and has been held in various Soho cafés in London, fostering active participation and engagement. Each year, the club undertakes a guided reading of a new sura, with detailed discussions on a few verses per session. Attendees are encouraged to bring a copy of the text, ‘The Qur’an: A New Translation’ by M.A.S Abdel Haleem, available at Waterstones, to enhance their understanding and participate fully in discussions.This year, Q-Club will read chapter 19 of the Qur’an, which is named after Mary, the mother of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon on them both). Compiled of 98 verses, the chapter focuses on the miraculous births of Jesus and John the Baptist emphasising the divine nature of both. The chapter also references the stories of other prophets including, among others, Abraham, Moses, Ismael, Isaac, and Adam (peace be upon on them all).
Attendees will gain an in-depth understanding of the chapter which will examine the prophetic stories through the lens of different themes including the importance of faith, patience, and remaining steadfast in good actions. The chapter highlights the importance of sincere prayer, observing patience through difficulties and learning the divine response to refuting false accusations.
