About this Event
Workshop Overview
Come and learn the traditional Ukrainian egg-decorating art called pysanky! You will learn how to use a kistka to create wax patterns on your egg, apply layers of dye, and then melt it all to reveal your colorful final product. No experience needed, we’ll provide everything you need to create beautiful pysanky (which means “to write” in Ukrainian).
About the Instructor
Katie Felton is a pysanky artist who brings the centuries old Ukrainian tradition of egg-decorating to life with a modern flair. She has been making these eggs for over 30 years, having first learned how to make them from her Ukrainian mother when she and her sisters were young. Katie loves sharing the historical and cultural significance of pysanky, and has been teaching for 15 years. She is a Buffalo native and runs workshops all across WNY.
While pysanky is a safe activity, workshops do involve the use of open flames (candles), hot wax, raw eggs, and strong dyes. Adherence to and principles are expected of all participants.
