Sunday, March 15, 2026: 3-5 pm @ Glass Growers Gallery Join Erie-based artists Patty Merski and Theresa Konzel for an interactive workshop where they share their techniques and tricks for creating beautiful and intricate Ukrainian Pysanky eggs.
Artist Background
We have made these incredible 'story eggs' for over 50 years. The tradition was passed down from paternal Grandmother, Catherine Beneviec Konzel, who immigrated with her husband, Stanley, from the Polish Ukraine at the ages of 14 and 17. We never knew our Grandfather, but our Grandmother occasionally created Pysanka in a very rough manner, with homemade tools and dyes. Grandma did not speak any English, making communication almost impossible for us kids and we never learned from her. Our family parish, Sts. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church was built, in part, by my grandparents and that is where we actually learned this wonderful craft as high-schoolers.
Each participant will go home with their own handcrafted Pysanky egg.
$40 includes instruction, materials, and light refreshments.
*If the minimum enrollment of five participants is not met, we will cancel the workshop and notify you no later than seven days beforehand.
