We invite you to come to our Ash Wednesday Mass and Retreat Day to begin this transformative Season of Lent, the Church’s “retreat” time, with other believers. Lent began as the Church’s “retreat” for those coming into the Church who would make their Professions of Faith and receive the Sacraments of Initiation during Holy Week. The character of Lent has a truly “baptismal” theme for them. As the faithful, those already professed and initiated, wanted to join in with this retreat time; Lent became a time for renewal in their baptismal commitments as well.
Along the way, penitential disciplines (like prayer, fasting, and actions of mercy) were added to help the faithful deepen their “putting on the mind and heart of Christ.”
Our day of retreat for Ash Wednesday will help us remember both components of the Season of Lent: a baptismal spirituality and penitential disciplines to help us more fully embrace our Christian vocation to take on the spirit and heart of Christ for our world today.
Our retreat day will begin with registration and arrivals beginning at 9 am, Mass at 9:30 am, a Noon lunch, and conclusion at 4 pm. All are welcome.
