Put on a Happy Face: A Salute to Charles StrouseRhode Island singer John Abernathy returns to the Napoleon Room with a new show celebrating the music of Charles Strouse who passed away earlier this year at 96 years old. Charles Strouse is best known for the Tony Award winning Broadway musicals Bye, Bye Birdie, Applause, and Annie. With the fabulous Jim Rice on piano, the show is directed by Ida Zecco who will appear as a guest artist. John Abernathy was featured in the 16th Annual New York Cabaret Convention at Lincoln Center in a tribute to Broadway composer Jerry Herman sharing the stage with legendary performers Lee Roy Reams, Michael Feinstein, Marilyn Maye, and Mr. Herman himself. He received a 2005 nomination for Best Male Cabaret Performer from the Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) for his show “A Cock-Eyed Optimist” in Boston. John has appeared as an actor in theatres across the country and toured internationally as pianist and soloist with the musical group “Up With People” including a performance with the National Symphony Orchestra.
