About this Event
Gun violence, addiction, and poverty, are crippling the communities of Philadelphia.
We no longer can be complicit in the destruction of our neighborhoods.
Mainstream music perpetually promotes destructive, self-sabotaging, and antisocial values that we see being manifested with the collapse of our culture.
We no longer can ignore the influence this messaging has on malleable minds.
What if instead of perpetuating crime, HipHop reduced it?
What if instead of celebrating destructive habits these songs promoted healing practices?
Ascension is defined as the act of rising to an important position or a higher level. That is the goal of this project: To inspire communities plagued by poverty, gun violence and addiction to ascend to higher levels of consciousness and thus achieve a better quality of life.
The Ascension Program is a collaboration between DayOneNotDayTwo and the Youth Art & Self Empowerment Project that pays local artists to create music & poetry with socially responsible values such as reducing gun violence, conserving natural resources, and advocating for equal rights for all. Through facilitated discussion and interactive activities we are shifting paradigms towards healing and abundance.
Our Debut Performance event “Pushing Peace” premiers October 14th, 2022. We blend the trap beats of today with the affirmations of tomorrow with a mission to Inspire, Empower, & Impact neighborhoods in ways never seen.
