Buddhism encompasses many schools and practices, which can seem overwhelming or even contradictory to newcomers and experienced practitioners alike. Through a Zen lens, this talk returns to the foundations of Buddhist practice, exploring meditation and direct insight as a simple, practical path relevant to everyday modern life.

Arno Hess is a Brisbane-based Zen teacher, founder of Pathway Zen, and leader of the Inside Mindfulness program, a rehabilitation initiative now taught in six Queensland prisons. With a master’s degree in Buddhist Studies and a background co-founding a technology-based manufacturing company, he is passionate about integrating Zen into everyday life and supporting others in their practice.
