Public Image Ltd (PiL) est un groupe britannique fondé en 1978 par John Lydon après la dissolution des Sex Pistols. Avec Keith Levene et Jah Wobble, Lydon ouvre une nouvelle voie post-punk mêlant expérimentations sonores, basse hypnotique et approche avant-gardiste du rock.
Leur premier album, Public Image: First Issue (1978), impose une esthétique radicale. Suivent Metal Box (1979) et The Flowers of Romance (1981), devenus des références majeures du post-punk pour leur liberté formelle et leur sonorité minimaliste et abrasive.
Actif de 1978 à 1992 avant une longue pause, le groupe renaît en 2009, enchaîne les tournées et signe trois albums salués par la critique : This Is PiL (2012), What The World Needs Now… (2015) et End of World (2023).
Toujours en mouvement, PiL continue de défier les codes et de faire évoluer sa vision.

After fronting the Sex Pistols, John Lydon formed post-punk originators Public Image Ltd (PiL). Widely regarded as one of the most innovative bands of all time, their music and vision earned them 5 UK Top 20 Singles and 5 UK Top 20 Albums.
With a shifting line-up and unique sound – fusing rock, dance, folk, pop and dub – Lydon guided the band from their debut album ‘First Issue’ in 1978 through to 1992’s ‘That What Is Not’, before a 17 year hiatus.
Lydon reactivated PiL in 2009, touring extensively and releasing three critically acclaimed albums ‘This is PiL’ in 2012 followed by ‘What The World Needs Now…’ in 2015 and ‘End of World’ in 2023.
PiL continue to challenge and thrive.
