Quantum 101: From Qubits to the Real World is an engaging, beginner-friendly event designed to demystify quantum computing and explore its growing impact on today’s world. The program will feature an accessible lecture led by a university professor, introducing the fundamental concepts of quantum computing—what it is, how it works, and why it matters—without requiring a technical background. The discussion will then highlight real-world and emerging applications of quantum technologies across industries such as cybersecurity, healthcare, finance, and advanced materials. The event will conclude with an interactive Q&A and open discussion, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions, share ideas, and engage directly with the professor about the future of quantum computing and its implications for innovation and society.
Speaker Bio: Dr. Patrick Vora is an Associate Professor of Physics at George Mason University and the Director of the Quantum Science and Engineering Center. Dr. Vora received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2010 in experimental hard condensed matter physics. He has also developed expertise in ultrafast spectroscopy and quantum information through a postdoc at the Naval Research Laboratory. At George Mason University, Dr. Vora works with graduate and undergraduate students to study quantum phenomena in atomically-thin materials using optics, electronic transport, and magnetic measurements.
