This winter, 'Aiga hosts their first ever artist in residence, Megann Salā! Salā will join 'Aiga Singers in the first week of December to put on 'Pua Lilia, Songs of Love and Connection.' Salā comes with a culturally rich background in choral conducting, directing, arranging, and hula. She was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi where she earned her bachelor degree in Music Education, and master degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. While at Mānoa, she directed, and sang in University Chorus, Hawaiian Chorus, Concert Choir, and Chamber Singers. She also served as an assistant director for the Hawaiʻi Youth Opera Chorus, a community children’s chorus focused on music education through world music and Native Hawaiian culture, and was apart of Hawai'i Opera Theaters productions of Dialogue of the Carmelites, Turandot, and Sweeney Todd.
During her time at Arizona State University, she has had the opportunity of assistant directing Sol Singers and Barrett Symphonic Choir, while serving as a teaching assistant for Gospel Choir and Beginning Choral Conducting. Some moments of achievement during her doctoral program include publishing her arrangement of King David Kalākaua’s ‘Akahi Ho’i with Pavane Publishing and conducting it at National ACDA in 2022, and being awarded NCCO Conducting Fellow in 2023 where she participated in a masterclass with Anton Armstrong.
Together with our Artistic Director, they've put together a program of music that connects, admires, and appreciates the land we stand on, the nature around us, our spiritual roots, and most importantly, those who sit with us at the table.
We hope to see you in Butte on December, 6th at 7pm, or in Missoula on December 7th at 7:30pm!
