About this Event

Join us for a complimentary workshop. Learn and understand what a Psychiatric Living Will, also known as an Advanced Mental Health Directive, is and how to use it to protect the rights of your loved ones.


A licensed Notary Public will be available to notarize your living wills - free of charge.


This seminar is designed to provide parents, senior citizens, social workers and mental health providers with a thorough understanding of the Florida law regarding Psychiatric Living Wills, its impact on human rights and what actions to take to protect vulnerable persons in the mental health system.


Specific Learning Objectives:

1. Understand what is a Psychiatric Living Will (also known as Advanced Mental Health Directive).

2. What can you do to protect yourself from possible future psychiatric abuse.

3. The details, and legal protection, of a Psychiatric Living Will and its relationship to the human rights of patients.

4. How to take action to use what you learn from this workshop.


Our guest speaker:

Carmen Miller has been a private attorney in the Tampa Bay area for many years. She is an expert on the Baker Act and served for over 8 years as an Asst. Public Defender for the 13th Judicial District, Hillsborough County.
