The Live Acts
What is there to say about THE BEVIS FROND that hasn’t already been said in numerous music magazine articles over the last 40 years ? If you want a decent history of the band, check out the recent documentary ‘Little Eden: The Story of The Bevis Frond’. Fronted by Nick Saloman, the psych-rock legends have released almost thirty studio albums since 1987’s Miasma, with the next one (Horrorful Heights) due in April. We’ve been wanting them to play at Psych Sundae since it started, and it’s finally happening ! This will be the band’s first UK gig of 2026, and they will hopefully be playing a few songs off the new album, along with some classics from their extended back catalogue.

CYGNET is an artist based in Stroud, Gloucestershire, creating music that blends an eclectic mix of instruments, including a DMX drum machine, bass, guitar, foot pedals, percussion, sampled loops, and voice. They played at Psych Sundae in 2024 with Count Zer0. The music draws inspiration from the raw energy of arcane blues and psychedelia, with references to artists like Hapshash and the Multi Coloured Coat, Bukka White, and Count Ossie & the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari. The result is a distinctive sound that has been described as aggressive, dark ambient, early DIY techno, sound art, and “post-everything, improvised industrial and ambient noise with beats.” Cygnet will be joined by poet James David Dick (Red Propellors) for this Psych Sundae performance.

Comedian Stewart Lee has described ELIZA SKELTON as being 'like a cross between Stevie Nicks and a stygian witch that can see into your soul’. The Brighton-based singer songwriter and multi- instrumentalist has been quietly making music on the south coast for many years. Her songs are a genre bending blend of atmospheric, gothic tinged folk rock, electronica and lush pastoral vocal harmonies, complemented with visionary narrative lyrics. Known for The Desperate Ones, a collaboration with Paul Simmons (The Bevis Frond), and a long-serving member of Oddfellow’s Casino, Eliza released her debut solo album The Lookerer (Blue Matter Records) in June 2023.

It’s hard to believe that MAP 71 have only played Psych Sundae twice before, as they’ve been a growing presence in Brighton’s underground scene since forming in 2013. The post-punk / spoken wave combo consist of Lisa Jayne - lyrics / vocals, and Andy Pyne - drums / sounds. Hypnotic drum rhythms build an environment for stories told by a restless observer. Ritual pulses and angular grooves woven with a dialogue of Pagan surrealism and abstract verse. Having seen them live numerous times over the last few years, they seem to be getting better and better, and we’re looking forward to hearing some tracks from their upcoming album, The Feral Jinx, which is due to be released in April.

MINOR DENTS from Brighton are a propulsive kosmische trio with Holly Finch on vocals and bass, Ryan Bollard on drums, and Al Strachan on keys, cornet and electronics. They have drawn comparisons to Broadcast, Stereolab and Nico, and a recent live show inspired music writer Everett True to
describe them as, “Mesmerising… Hypnotic goodness. Goodly
hypnosis…. Goody goody gumdrops.” Their debut EP is out on Rose Hill Records on January 23rd - timed to coincide with their Lewes Psychedelic Festival appearance. While the band are Psych Sundae debutants, Al has previously appeared on a couple of occasions, as part of Chop Chop and Nylon Prawn.

THE DECADENT DAYZE are still buzzing after being labelled ‘Brighton’s Guardians of the Garage-Psych Grail’ in a recent issue of Shindig Magazine, but to be fair, it was always their primary aim to create catchy Freakbeat tunes that might have been heard on Radio London in 1967. Stylistically, the group's garage-psych-pop roots (13th Floor Elevators, The Golden Dawn, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Buzzcocks) have been tempered by elements of folk-horror and more. Some of their songs involve strange tales of black cats, stone circles, magic spells, wizz bangs and fairies, but they can still knock out a decent love song when they want. The band have been busy recording tracks with Julian Tardo in Hove, for what will be their first studio album, to be released later this year. A single, Down By The Water, will precede the album, and a limited lathe-cut will hopefully be available by the time they play Psych Sundae.
